Andrew Seybold’s MobileApp Challenge provided a unique look into the future of blended services, data, and applications as part of the Andrew Seybold Wireless University segment that examines what makes up good mobile applications. Attendees saw up-close how some of today’s most innovative thinkers are creating and deploying new mobile services that distance themselves from the rest of the field as Finalists demonstrated their mobile applications and attendees selected a winner.

MobileApp Finalists Chosen for March 22, 2010 Session

Winners Announced! Read the press release.

iTMP Technology – WINNER CONSUMER APPLICATIONS
Early in 2009, iTMP Technology introduced a suite of apps that enable the iPhone and iPod touch to double as a heart rate monitor and cyclometer, with the next generation including a foot pod (like Nike+ but non-proprietary).  According the company, they are the only apps that listen to the heart, which is fundamental to tracking cardio exercise. A wireless bridge enables data flow from ultra-low power sensors to the mobile devices. The first-generation SMHEART LINK™ bridge, used (Wi-Fi) but the new Digifit™ Connect receiver uses the iPhone’s serial port.

AirKast’s TuneKast – WINNER DEVEOPER APPLICATIONS
AirKast helps broadcasting and publishing companies deliver branded applications that showcase multimedia-rich content to mobile devices, allowing them to focus on competitive advantages rather than the infrastructure of mobile delivery. Using TuneKast, an AirBridge solution for radio stations, listeners can hear streaming audio while interacting with relevant graphic content displayed on the screen, such as in-app ads. Applications are “dynamically brand-able,” so stations can vary sponsor information in real-time without performing application updates.

Alcatel-Lucent Developer Platform
Alcatel-Lucent’s cloud-based Developer Platform gives service providers and enterprises tools that enable partners and third-party developers to build, test, manage, and distribute applications across networks, including television, broadband Internet, and mobile. It is a comprehensive cloud-based platform to open network-based services for service providers, MSOs, and enterprises looking for ways to help developers around the globe more easily adopt their APIs.

How to Enter the MobileApp Challenge

Andrew Seybold invites mobile application developers to compete for valuable industry recognition by submitting their mobile application entries to info@andrewseybold.com. (There are no entry fees.)

We’re looking for the most innovative mobile services applications introduced commercially in 2010, regardless of platform or network. However, applications that require users to invoke a browser are not eligible, though a browser may be used by the application in the background. From all submissions, Andrew Seybold will invite 4-5 Finalists to present four-minute demonstrations. One winner will be chosen by the Wireless University Attendees.
