Audience to Select Winner of MobileApp Challenge

at Andrew Seybold’s Wireless University

Santa Barbara, California, March 11, 2010 – A panel of judges has selected three finalists to demonstrate their innovative applications in the MobileApp Challenge, a featured attraction of Andrew Seybold’s Wireless University, the full-day seminar scheduled for March 22 prior to the opening of CTIA Wireless 2010 the next day. To qualify for the competition, entries must have been launched during Calendar 2009. The winner will be chosen by the seminar audience.

“The MobileApp Challenge provides a unique look into the future of blended services, data and applications,” Andrew Seybold said. “Besides recognizing the worthy efforts of the contestants, it also provides a unique context in which to observe trends in the wireless industry.”

Each finalist will present a three- to four-minute demonstration of his/her company’s application. Finalists receive free admission to the Andrew Seybold Wireless University for two (a $750 value) and three seats for the exclusive, Andrew Seybold Wireless Dinner at Las Vegas Venetian Hotel on the first night of the CTIA show. The finalists and their entries are:

iTMP Technology
Early in 2009, iTMP Technology introduced a suite of apps that enable the iPhone and iPod touch to double as a heart rate monitor and cyclometer, with the next generation including a foot pod (like Nike+ but non-proprietary).  According the company, they are the only apps that listen to the heart, which is fundamental to tracking cardio exercise. A wireless bridge enables data flow from ultra-low power sensors to the mobile devices. The first-generation SMHEART LINK™ bridge, used (Wi-Fi) but the new Digifit™ Connect receiver uses the iPhone’s serial port.

AirKast’s TuneKast
AirKast helps broadcasting and publishing companies deliver branded applications that showcase multimedia-rich content to mobile devices, allowing them to focus on competitive advantages rather than the infrastructure of mobile delivery. Using TuneKast, an AirBridge solution for radio stations, listeners can hear streaming audio while interacting with relevant graphic content displayed on the screen, such as in-app ads. Applications are “dynamically brand-able,” so stations can vary sponsor information in real-time without performing application updates.

Alcatel-Lucent Developer Platform
Alcatel-Lucent’s cloud-based Developer Platform gives service providers and enterprises tools that enable partners and third-party developers to build, test, manage, and distribute applications across networks, including television, broadband Internet, and mobile. It is a comprehensive cloud-based platform to open network-based services for service providers, MSOs, and enterprises looking for ways to help developers around the globe more easily adopt their APIs.

“An especially interesting aspect of this year’s competition is that the finalists address the three major sectors of the wireless community: consumers, content and service providers, and developers,” Seybold noted. “Each in its own way breaks new ground and the mix will definitely present a selection challenge in choosing a winner.”

The Wireless University is held twice-yearly in conjunction with the CTIA trade shows. It focuses on issues facing wireless mobility by examining its key elements – applications, content, devices, and technologies. For information visit www.AndrewSeybold.com/events/wireless-university.
