Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) December 23, 2010

Wireless data communications industry analyst, journalist and consultant Andrew Seybold today announced nine finalists in the annual Choice Awards competition conducted by Andrew Seybold, Inc. to recognize the year’s “most innovative” offerings in Mobile Technology, Mobile Devices and Mobile Applications. Winners will be revealed at the Annual Andrew Seybold Wireless Dinner on January 6, 2011 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, following the opening day of the Consumer Electronics Show.

“In the past, we have had a fourth category, mobile services,” Seybold said. “Increasingly, however, it appears that services and technology have converged and we have also done so, rolling the two into a single category of innovation. I think it is a sign of the industry’s maturation, but interestingly, as it matures, it shows no sign of diminishing inventiveness. That is one of the things we continue to celebrate in our awards program.”

Categories and finalists include:

Most Innovative Mobile Technology

Alcatel-Lucent Mobile Smartloading turns smart phones into mobile DVRs that allow users to download and use the content they want without concern for usage caps or managing their network connections. Service providers push content over the best network at the best time for storage on devices, making it available to users on demand.

Antenna Software’s Antenna Mobile Platform provides a portfolio of mobile applications for business-to-consumer and employee activities in areas such as financial services, retail, consumer product goods, life sciences and manufacturing. The applications can be used on any device, anywhere in the world, running locally or in the cloud.

Vantrix Bandwith Optimizer compresses video content for mobile carriers and optimizes it for real-time delivery. The multi-featured technology optimizes bandwidth to avoid waste of network resources; streams content to adapt to network conditions; transcodes and transrates to minimize traffic impact; and provides caching for popular content. It supports up to 14,000 mobile devices.

Most Innovative Mobile Device

Apple Computer’s iPad is a tablet computer marketed as a platform for audio and visual media such as books, periodicals, movies, music, and games as well as web content. At 1.5 pounds with dimensions of 9.56″ high x 7.47″ in wide and 0.5″ deep, it falls between smartphones and laptops, sharing capabilities of each. It features bare finger-control via a multitouch LCD display.

Panasonic’s Toughboook U1 Ultra combines the portability of a handheld with a full Windows OS, a reputation for durability and a suite of available features. With plenty of memory, solid state disc storage and a display viewable in bright sunlight, Toughbook U1 is recommended for applications such as direct store delivery, supply chain management, eCitations, public safety and utilities.

Sound ID’s 510 Bluetooth Headset with its free EarPrint app optimizes the Bluetooth experience. The headset features advanced sound processing, voice announcements; engineered lisening comfort; touch sensor volume control and connectivity to two Bluetooth-enabled phones. EarPrint can set audio for multiple modes; has a location finder; sound level meter; and more.

Most Innovative Mobile Application

AdelaVoice’s Start Talking is a hands-free/eyes-free, speech recognition and text-to-speech application that allows drivers to dictate messages and listen to responses by speaking commands, thus avoiding the safety risks inherent in texting while driving. Available in the Android market, it “listens” continuously, relying on a “wake-up word” to set processes in motion.

QuickOffice Connect Mobile Suite for iPad is a newly redesigned native iPad solution that provides users with access to cloud services and enables them to view, edit and share Microsoft Office files on-the-go, closely emulating desktop operation. It integrates with cloud storage services for seamless access to files in popular repositories as well as facilitates collaboration.

Sundrop Mobile, Inc.’s Reward Card Wallet allows consumers to store loyalty cards – grocery, motor club, etc. — on iPhone or Android mobile devices as well as to receive location-based marketing alerts from local businesses. The Wallet employs barcode scanner technology and at store visits, cashiers simply scan the on-screen barcode to retrieve the customer information.

“The theme of the 2011 Wireless Dinner is ‘No Boundaries’,” Seybold said, “and through the innovation represented in these entries, we see once again that the people comprising the wireless industry continue to defy limits. It is truly exciting to be a part of an industry where imagination is the foundation.”
